Biosciences Federation (BSF)
The Biosciences Federation is actively working to influence policy and strategy in biology-based research - including funding and the interface with other disciplines - and in school and university teaching. The Federation is also concerned about the translation of research into benefits for society, and about the impact of legislation and regulations on the ability of those working in teaching and research to deliver effectively. The Boyd Group
The Boyd Group is a UK based forum for open exchange of views on issues of concern related to the use of animals in science.
Institute of Animal Technology (IAT)
The Register of Animal Technicians was set up in June 1995 to promote the status of Animal Technicians in view of the impending new legislation, the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. Individuals on the Register are considered by their qualifications, experience and personal attitudes, to be suitable to shoulder the responsibilities of senior posts within laboratory animal facilities. The Board is responsible for the administration of the Register.
Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA)
The Board consists of up to 2 representatives from each constituent organisation and it meets twice a year.
Institute of Biology
The Institute of Biology represents UK biology and biologists; it has 15.000 members and 75 Affiliated Societies. LASA is a member of the Affiliated Societies Forum which brings together 75 Societies ranging from the Physiological Society to the British Grassland Association. The aim is that the IOB, together with its Affiliated Societies, should become the ‘Voice of British biology’. LASA is also a member of the AWARE Committee - Animal Welfare in Research and Education. The Accreditation Panel is responsible for the accreditation of licensee training courses.
International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS)
ICLAS is an international scientific organization dedicated to advancing human and animal health by promoting the ethical care and use of laboratory animals in research worldwide.Laboratory Animal Breeders Association (LABA)This Association is for the breeders and suppliers of laboratory animals. It is important for both ethical and scientific reasons that these animals are of a high and consistent standard, and LABA is concerned to ensure that such standards are attained.
Laboratory Animals Limited (LAL)

Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA)
Laboratory animals are used for many different purposes in research and testing, and each area of use raises specific ethical, welfare and scientific issues. The RSPCA adopts a constructive and practical approach, judging every issue individually, critically questioning the necessity and justification for animal use and striving to reduce the conflict between animals and science wherever possible.
